This joint Geography of Higher Education & D4SME webinar responds to a call to tackle the SME digital skills gap and promote projects and strategies to improve the level of digital skills amongst entrepreneurs. This moderated panel session will discuss how higher education institutions, governments and key players from the private sector can work together to deliver SMEs tools to develop their digital skills in a practical, affordable and accessible manner. There will be a focus on the role digital skill development can play in an inclusive recovery, with the upskilling of marginalised groups, youth and rural entrepreneurs. What digital skills are needed to enable SMEs to embark in a real digital transformation, rather than just engage with basic technologies on a superficial level? What are the main barriers and challenges for SMEs to increase their digital skills? What makes a digital training effective and relevant for SMEs? How can governments, higher education institutions and large firms work together to close the digital skill gap?
